Tibet Route To Kyrgyzstan Via Xinjiang?

Tibet route to Kyrgyzstan via Xinjiang?
I am planning a Tibet trip in late June/early July, and afterwards, (depending on what kind of Chinese visa I get in Kathmandu, or Lhasa), I’d like to continue into China proper, and visit Xinjiang, and maybe even Qinghai.
My question is what kind of transport is there from Lhasa to Xinjiang? What’s the website for the Chinese train that goes from Lhasa north? Does it stop in Urumuqi, or do I have to backtrack through Xining?
Another question is what route do I take to enter Kyrgystan (from China)? I choose Kyrgyz because Canadians get visa on arrival. I am also interested in entering Kazakhstan from China, but then I need to pre-arrange a visa, but where in that part of Western China, I don’t know.
Tajikistan also borders Xinjiang, but I am not sure if foriegners are allowed to cross here?

Is Possible To Get Visa To Tibet From India, And The Tickets To The New Train To Llhasa If You Are From Peru?

Will go to india at the end of september, will spend a month there. I know an air ticket to China in Sri Lankan Airlines is only 540 dollars, round trip. From Beijing the train to Tibet costs 140 dollars each way and last three days each way. My question is, can I apply for the tibet Visa in Delhi, and can I buy the train tickets to Tibet in Beijing. Of course will apply for a chinese visa too. did hear you may buy the tickets if you are at the train station waiting for a cancellation.

Have You Travelled To Tibet?

Does anyone know what the entrance/visa requirements are for visiting Tibet? What if you are already in China - do you still need to get another type of visa? What the trip to Tibet worth it? Was there lots to see? Is the altitude a big adjustment?

Why Will The Western World Not Intervene To Stop The Genocide That China Is Inflicting On Tibet?

I just got home from McLeod Ganj which is where the Tibetan gov in exile is ran by the Dalai Lama. Out of all the places I went in India this place had the most lasting effect on me. We visited a museum which told the story of what happened. Some of the things that are still going on (Tibetans being sent to labour camps and never being heard of again) are like the holocaust. Millions of Tibetans have been murdered by the Chinese over the last 50 years (for crimes such as displaying a Tibetan flag or going to a peaceful protest) and over 90% of their cultural heritage has been destroyed.
In the evening at dinner we got talking to a group of Tibetan men who were sitting at the next table to us and one of them told us how he and a group of 30 others walked on foot across the mountains from Tibet to McLeod Ganj in a trip that took 1 month and 10 days. He said that lots of groupsdon’t make it as if the Chinese patrols catch them trying to leave they will shoot them on the spot. Until he got to India he thought that his capital was Beijing and had never seen the Tibetan flag.
I know China is a superpower but how can the world sit back and let thing happen?? I had heard about Tibet before but I never knew what it was about really. Since speaking to that group of men I have thought about it everyday and it sickens me that the rest of the world can sit by and watch China abuse this nation in the way that they are.
At school I was told that one of the reasons we learn history is so that in the future we know not to repeat the same mistakes. So how can the western world sit and watch China act towards Tibetans in the same way the Nazis acted with the Jews and not do anything about it?

China Home Return Pass Travel To Tibet?

Hi,
I am currently in China using my China Home Return Pass, which I have because whilst I’m an Australian citizen, I was born in Hong Kong.
This card has been great for travelling in China, because I do not need a visa - I’m basically treated as a Chinese citizen and can work and stay here as long as I want.
I was wondering though, what about Tibet? Does any have any information about whether I can travel to Tibet without any additional documentation?
Please provide links wherever possible, as I would like to verify the information before embarking on a trip to Tibet.
Thanks.

What Is The Current Situation On Traveling To Tibet?? Is China’s Grip Going To Compromise A Possible Adventure?

I’d like to travel to Tibet next year, by myself. I’m a 28 year old female. Before I even think of planning my trip I need to know what’s happening with China and if they’re going to cause any problems. I’m almost unsure of the question to ask here because there are so many different scenarios and China could easily turn my adventure into a hellish nightmare. Please lend me any knowledge of past experiences and the current situation on traveling there. ANYTHING you’ve got to offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your answers in advance!!

Tibet Trip Booking Help!?

Why are the tour agencies all trying to rip me off on booking a trip to Tibet? I”ll be in China in November and am looking for someone to pick me up from BJ and drop off at SH with in between Lhasa for 4 days. I’ve been quoted anywhere from $800 - $1500 per person for 2 people and this excludes airfare! I speak and read Chinese so I am fully aware of the cost of things, but it seems I do need to use a travel agency because I can’t get the Tibet Visa on my own. Any tips?!?!??!

Tibet : Can We Close The Eyes? (an Eye Report From A Resident Of Lhasa)?

Recent protest and crackdown by the Chinese in Lhasa
(An eye report from a resident of Lhasa)
1. Lhasa is filled with military personals right after the 2nd day of the protest on 3/14/08. No one with proper identification of residence in Lhasa is allowed to roam the street or go to the market. They are checking everyone’s bags & pockets on the street. They don’t even give them rights to return to their home.
2. The phone lines of all the around monasteries have been shut down, right after the protests.
3. Government raid and check all the houses and families for the picture of the Dalai Lama and imprison the ones with such possessions.
4. Due to the foreign media’s tour between the 27th till the 29th, the military personals were asked to leave the city temporarily, to show that they are not imposing tough military presence in the Lhasa city. At some locations, they even let the military disguise in a civilian clothing to hide their presence from the foreign media.
5. Afternoon 29

Tibet Travel????

I have from July 27 (2008) to August 12 to travel anywhere I want, departing from Shanghai, China (by the way, I live in the US, and am not Chinese). I was thinking of going to Tibet. Do you have any suggestions on how I can travel there? What I mean is that I don’t want to travel alone, so do you know any tour groups for young travelers? I am interested in the cultural aspect, not things like trekking.
Is this a bad time to travel? (because of the Olypmics).
I am very interested in Buddhist culture and would like to meet monks. Is Tibet not a good idea because China is supressing its Buddhist culture?
Lastly, do you think visiting a place like Nepal or Mongolia would be better?
Thanks for the help.
